fasting benefits
Fasting is very beneficial mentally & physically, aside from spiritually.
When we eat a high carbohydrate meal we get a very high insulin spike, which takes 8-10 hours to come down.
High protein (especially meat) also takes up to 3 days to break down producing a lot of disruptive acids & fats harming respiration, arteries, & joints (check "euric acid").
All foods do however contain carbohydrates, even high protein vegetable based ones. From my experience having a bad diet is WORSE in terms of energy levels than fasting itself. Yes I felt more energy dips (and high blood pressure due to body's higher perspiration rate to rid of toxins) when on an acidic diet (lots of processed foods especially containing added sugar) than water fasting. In fact, energy levels felt higher at times when fasting because testerstorone levels go up, even on the 4th day, to the extent where i could not control my self >____< .
Here's what happens at intervals of fasting:
DAY 1:
- 12 hours: HGH (Human Growth Hormones) start to repairs cells.
- 14 hours: Ketosis. Stored fat used for energy.
- 16 hours: Autophagy. The body eats away at any toxins including cancer cells. This is why 16 8 (16 fasting 8 eating) is recommended daily (e.g. eat from 12PM to 8PM then fast). Therefore, the bare minimum should be 16; 17 hours is better.
- 24 hours:
a) organs go into accelerated healing. Intestinal stem cells start to regenerate.
b) a protein called BDNF (Brain Derived Neurotrophic Factor) fertilizes the brain by repairing its degenerating neurons (that cause memory & concentration loss, depression & anxiety).
c) serotonin (the hormone that creates happiness) goes up.
d) CRP (C-Reactive Protein) levels go down indicating reduced artery inflammation, so blood pressure goes down.
DAY 2:
- 36 hours: more ketones for energy & all processes continue.
DAY 3:
- 72 hours:
a) more stem cells start to regenerate, especially in the immunity system where white blood cell are recycled.
b) old injuries start repair.
c) gluconeogenesis (glucose production) starts. The body makes its own energy by making its own glucose.
Besides all these benefits for the body, it is very beneficial for building discipline.
More repair takes place upon continuing. Do you see why prophets - such as Muhammad - recommended a 3 day minimum fast every month? The benefits are enormous.
However, you can start with 16-8 (that is: water fast for 16 hours, and eat during the remaining 8); I recommend fasting from 5PM to 9AM (so you can eat during normal working hours) to begin with. What I personally do is fast from around 8PM till around 3PM making it a 19-5 every day to rid of toxins. Every other day I do 36+ to rid of more toxins and to convert more fat into energy. When I longer have food then I usually (basically once a month) do 72+ to refresh the immunity system and repair any past injuries.
To aid me in long fasts: I use copper bottle, cold showers (especially when I feel heart pulpitations using a shower filter (which increases minerals and removes any toxins / chemicals), and I also do 3LAW Yoga (visualization based on the 3 Level Alliance concept of union of the 3 levels of consciousness and Kundalini Yoga based meditation). Sun (and nature in general) exposure helps, breath locks, as well as some basic physical exercise especially from Simplified Kundalini Yoga. As Dr. Nun Amen-Ra does, I fast during morning cardiovascular exercise (especially when hungry) because the body would have no choice but to feed on fat (ketosis) for energy at that time.
