In some cases of the Left Hand Path (of Return) there is atheism.  Atheism means not having a god (therefore idol / representation) to worship through (idolize). It does not mean not believing in something beyond the 5 senses of the  5 elements  therefore void of egoism. A more accurate word for he who does not believe in anything beyond the senses is  infidel . Anyway even theists believe he is some separate individual (usually hovering somewhere "up" there in heaven), which makes them infidels, too. In other words... they all believe in the same Thing, but personalize Him differently - as per their culture - therefore fight anyway.   However,  faith in the higher power of the elements  definitely helps - although should succeed lack of desire for life (detachment therefore Surrender) and therefore aspiration to know Him (therefore to be saved / liberated from the illusion of the senses), and should definitely not be an attachment or social no...
